ARSMD–ISWA Beacon Conference Romania 2027
In 2027, Romania will host the ISWA Beacon Conference, organised by ARSMD together with the International Solid Waste Association — an international reference event for waste management and the circular economy.

Past events
2025 — ARSMD International Conference · National Sanitation Forum
The conference took place on 10 April 2025, as part of the ROMENVIROTEC exhibition, in the Titulescu Ballroom, Bucharest.
It brought together representatives of the central authorities, ARSMD members, sanitation companies from across the country, sector experts, as well as delegates of the international organisations ISWA – International Solid Waste Association and FEAD – European Waste Management Association.
The central theme of the conference, “The Environment and the Challenges of Waste Management and Sanitation / Sustainable Solutions for Waste Management in Romania”, addressed the sector’s current challenges as well as opportunities for development and innovation in sanitation and waste management.

2019 events
Between June 19-21, 2019, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D. organised, together with ISWA – International Solid Waste Association, the 9th edition of the international conference on the topic: “Directions for Implementing the Circular Economy Concept in Waste Management as the Basis for Sustainable Development of Localities in Romania.” The event took place in Mamaia, at the DEL MAR Hotel (4*).
On Thursday, February 28, 2019, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., together with the Civic Sense Association, organised a public debate within the project “Alternative Public Environmental Policies in Romania,” 112769/154. The debate took place in the Observator Conference Room, at the International Hotel.
On February 21, 2019, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., in partnership with the SIMT CIVIC ASSOCIATION, organised a public debate on the theme “ALTERNATIVE PUBLIC POLICIES FOR SEPARATE COLLECTION OF MUNICIPAL WASTE – RECOMMENDED SOLUTION” within the project “Alternative Public Environmental Policies in Romania,” co-financed by the Administrative Capacity Operational Program 2014 – 2020, Priority Axis 2 – Efficient Public Administration and Judicial System. The event took place in the Observator Conference Room at the International Hotel in Bucharest.
On January 22, 2019, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., together with the Coalition for the Circular Economy Association, the Romanian Association for Packaging and Environment (A.R.A.M.), the Romanian Brewers Association (A.B.R.), O.P.P. Remat, the Citadin League, and the Institute for Circular Economy and Environmental Research Ernest Lupan from Cluj-Napoca, organised the conference on the theme “Reporting and Settlement Mechanisms Regarding the Achievement of Packaging Waste Recovery Objectives According to OUG 74/2018 (Law 31/2019).” The event took place in the Magna Aula of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.
2018 events
On Thursday, March 29, 2018, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., the Coalition for the Circular Economy Association, and the Romanian Association for Packaging and Environment – A.R.A.M. organised a debate on the topic “Pay for What You Throw – From Concept to Practice.” The event took place at the 2013 Amphitheater of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (Faculty of Cybernetics, entrance from Dorobanți Street).
On December 4, 2018, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., in partnership with the SIMT CIVIC ASSOCIATION, organised a public debate on the topic “Optimizing the Institutional Capacity of Local Authorities for Monitoring and Proper Reporting of Data Related to Municipal Waste Management” within the project “Alternative Public Environmental Policies in Romania,” co-financed by the Administrative Capacity Operational Program 2014 – 2020, Priority Axis 2 – Efficient Public Administration and Judicial System. The event was held in the Panoramic Conference Room at the International Hotel, Bucharest.
On November 26, 2018, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., in partnership with the SIMT CIVIC ASSOCIATION, organised a public debate on the theme “Separate Collection of Municipal Waste – The Main Pillar of Circular Economy Development” within the project “Alternative Public Environmental Policies in Romania,” co-financed by the Administrative Capacity Operational Program 2014 – 2020, Priority Axis 2 – Efficient Public Administration and Judicial System. The event took place in the Observator Conference Room at the International Hotel, 27 Căuzași Street, Bucharest, Sector 3.
Between June 27-29, 2018, the Romanian Association for Waste Management – A.R.S.M.D. organised the 8th edition of the A.R.S.M.D. – ISWA International Conference in Mamaia, with the theme: “CIRCULAR ECONOMY – CHALLENGES, TARGETS, AND SOLUTIONS FOR ROMANIA.”
The ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D. has started organising a series of specialised courses. The courses for Waste Management Specialist (COR 325713) and Project Manager (COR 242101) last for 3 days and are certified by CNFPA/ANC. In May 2018, a series of Waste Management Specialist courses were already held.
The ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., in partnership with Innovation Norway, organised a visit from a delegation of Norwegian experts to Romania between May 1-7, 2018. The Norwegian delegation visited several private companies that are members of A.R.S.M.D., as well as the biogas station in Filipeștii de Pădure. Additionally, the Norwegian experts wanted to learn more about the producer responsibility organisations (OIREP) that implement extended producer responsibility obligations in Romania.
On Thursday, March 29, 2018, the ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., the Coalition for Circular Economy – C.E.R.C., and the Romanian Association for Packaging and Environment – ARAM organised the debate “Pay for What You Throw – From Concept to Practice.”
2017 events
The ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D., together with ISWA – International Solid Waste Association, organised the traditional international conference between June 28-30, 2017, at Hotel Comandor 4*, Mamaia. This was the 7th edition of the conference, with the theme: “The Situation of Waste Management in Romania – Between the Completion of Projects through POS Mediu and the Financing of Projects through POIM.”
On April 11, 2017, at 10:00 AM, the “GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS” took place at Hotel Ibis București Palatul Parlamentului City Centre (Str. Izvor, Nr. 82-84, Sector 5, Bucharest).
2016 events
On November 3, 2016, the Board Meeting of the Romanian Association for Waste Management (A.R.S.M.D.) took place.
Between June 22-25, 2016, in Mamaia, Romania, A.R.S.M.D., together with its partners ISWA and F.A.D.I., organised a series of widely-discussed debates. This year’s meeting was a complex one, a series of events covering the entire spectrum of waste management in Romania, allowing for an extensive analysis of the current situation.
For the first time in Romania: ISWA International Training Courses in Waste Management. Between May 25-27, 2016, the first series of ISWA international training courses in waste management took place in Bucharest.
2015 events
A.R.S.M.D. (formerly A.R.S.), in partnership with the National Regulatory Authority for Public Utility Services (A.N.R.S.C.), organised the ANNUAL MEETING OF SANITATION OPERATORS on Thursday, May 7, at Romexpo – Madgearu and Brâncuși Halls, with the theme: “Legislative, Financing, and Technical Updates in Waste Management in Romania.” During the event, the new Framework Regulation for sanitation services in localities was presented.
A.R.S.M.D. (formerly A.R.S.) organised the INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ARS – ISWA 2015 between July 1-2, 2015, in Mamaia, Romania.
The ROMANIAN ASSOCIATION FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT – A.R.S.M.D. (formerly the Romanian Sanitation Association – A.R.S.) organised the “FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY” on November 13, 2015, in Bucharest, Romania.
