Europe and international partnerships

ARSMD represents the Romanian sanitation and waste management sector in the two major international networks of the industry: FEAD — the European waste management industry federation — and ISWA — the International Solid Waste Association.

Since 1 January 2026, ARSMD has been a full member of FEAD, the federation representing the European waste services industry before the institutions of the European Union. Through FEAD, the Romanian sector contributes directly to European positions on the circular economy, extended producer responsibility, waste shipments and infrastructure financing.

In May 2026, ARSMD hosted the official visit of the FEAD leadership to Romania, in Poiana Brașov, together with a round table on the sector’s European priorities.

EU update: EPR for textiles becomes law

Directive (EU) 2025/1892, amending the Waste Framework Directive, entered into force on 16 October 2025. It introduces mandatory extended producer responsibility for textiles, with transposition due in 2027 and EPR schemes to become operational in 2028. ARSMD has long called for a clear national framework for textile waste and will take part in the Romanian transposition process. Source: EUR-Lex.
